Useful Tool at a Bargain Price,

Once upon a time I would probably have been baffled as to why anyone would want a low grade magnifying glass like this one. Then I hit my 40s and my eyes started to lose that wondrous ability to focus on fine details up close. For reading and any up close work that will take any significant amount of time, I use prescription reading glasses and would recommend others do the same. But carrying glasses in a protective case with me everywhere I go is a pain and not terribly practical. And that's where a product like this one comes in handy.
The magnifying glass is very light weight, compact, and durable. It fits easily in either shirt or pants pockets and its not bulky or heavy enough to be noticeable once you do. The optical quality would never compare to anything high end, but this it performs surprisingly well in any reasonable use. I found it helpful on several vacations to read small print on city maps as well as dimly lit restaurant menus. I should add that even...Read more

plastic lens, but very functional,
February 18, 2010 J. KNOWLES (Wimington, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This plastic magnifier is a bit distorted, but much less so than the horrible ones I see at the drugstores. The trick is to avoid the highest power. You get a clear, bright, legible blow-up of print at arm's length, and if you hold it an inch from your eye, you get a much higher quality, wider view. The size is a nice compromise, and it's very lightweight. If you can handle more weight or size, a glass one is better, but this does the job. If you need more power there is the Bausch+Lomb "Packette" slide-out. That one can be a bit extreme, though.

Good For Crafts and Reading Fine Print - Highly Recommended,
February 4, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This folding pocket magnifying glass is exactly what I was looking for when it became obvious that my aging eyes just couldn't read the fine print on instruction sheets and menus like they could a few years back. Here are my observations:
+ Powerful; provides just the right amount of magnification for most of my needs
+ Folding; lens rotates securely into the case plastic case for protection and portability
+ Lightweight; small and light, making it easy to carry in the pocket or purse
Other than it being made almost entirely out of plastic, I really don't have anything negative to say about this nice little magnifying glass.
Highly Recommended!
