Summary: Great for Rifles/Shotguns/Long-guns 2010-02-28
Comment: The Instapark RAS/RIS 3watt combination is great for any long-gun. It was tested on .22LR, .223, 9mm, 40cal and 12ga without any malfunctions, battery loss, or laser alignment problems. The 150 lumen flashlight is more than enough to blind any assailant/intruder into thinking twice about pinpointing your location. When properly installed, there was no problem with a constant 'zero' position for the laser.

Having professionally used other similar lights/laser combinations at almost 4-times the price, this unit is an excellent choice for home defense. What would make it even nicer would be a 'strobe' function and 'rocker' switches for on/off, as on other more costly units. Use a zip-tie on the pressure pad cord somewhere near the light and the rail system and you won't have to worry about accidental disconnects. Don't worry about the weight. It compensates for muzzle rise and recoil when mounted forward. Using this unit on a pistol is questionable, as it may not allow for proper fit from rail to trigger guard and the 'push button' on/off switch may cause a short sight pattern loss.

Word of advice for the novices out there... use your laser and flashlight in combination with each other, especially when illuminating your targets or potential threat... it's much safer for you to know if you're engaging a friend or foe.

A great product for the money and I will be recommending this combo to other friends.

Summary: Don't buy 2010-01-31
Comment: This product seemed like a good deal for the money. When I received it I looked it over very carefully. It seemed to be a good solid weapon mounted light. When I installed it on a rifle and fired it the battery door flew open spilling the batteries all over the ground. I tried to modify the latch that held the battery door closed but to no avail. Every single time I fire the weapon the batteries are all over the place. If I owned an airsoft gun it would be perfect for that.

Summary: Why often bought with trirail SHOTGUN mount???? 2010-01-14
Comment: This light is useless on my mossberg 500 12 gauge shotgun with trirail mount, after on shot the laser is out of sight and after 5 shots the battery compartment has opened and batteries fall out. Works great on my neighbor's 22lr plinker so saved me having to buy him a christmas present although it was a pretty expensive christmas present. There is a reason most other light/laser combos are $200+ Skip for anything high powered.

Summary: Works fine 2009-11-10
Comment: Didn't fully appreciate the quality and function of this reasonably priced device till after I got it mounted on the magazine tube of a 20" eight shot Mossberg 500A pistol grip shotgun. Cruiser or Presuader model I think. Used a LaserLite tri rail mount to mount it under the magazine tube.

It lights up the interior of my house well. It's a sturdier set up than I expected it to be. Used small wire ties to solidly attach one of the two included pressure switches to the vented hand guard where I can activate the laser and light at the same time with one touch of my left thumb.

Tried to push it around to intentionally knock the laser out of alignment... but it's still right where I set it.

Don't know how it will hold up under some target practice yet. The LED light should hold up OK. For my purposes, my main objective is to be able to identify what I may be about to shoot before I pull the trigger.

Would like to see a stronger locking type attachment between the plug in remote pressure switch and the body of the light. That's the only potential weak link I can see if it were to get snagged and pulled loose. Yet, one can simply use the switch mounted on the back of the unit which automatically takes over, when the remote pressure switch is unplugged, if that were to happen in a tight situation...

This appears to be one of those decent Chinese made products. It's of better quality than I thought it would be for $90.

Summary: Would not recommend for pistols. 2009-10-08
Comment: I bought this device intending to mount it on my full-size HK USP .45, as none of the info here indicated it wouldn't work for this. From my experience so far, I would not recommend the Instapark Tac-Light/Laser for use on handguns, period; it is really far too large to mount correctly. I tried it on several other pistols to make sure (all of mine that had rails): HK USP's, Glocks, Sig P220, and Steyr M-A1; none of these had slots in the rail at the correct place to match the unit's mounting bracket, and/or the unit's rail-mount was hanging completely off the end of the gun-rail. Also, due to the bulk and weight of the unit, it seems to not work well on polymer-framed guns or plastic rails - the unit had a tendency to bend the entire frame of the gun when jostled, potentially degrading the alignment of the laser.

I would personally only recommend this unit for use on rifles, shotguns, or smg's that have plenty of sturdy rail-space underneath. I ended up mounting the light on my Mossberg 500, and it works fine for that.

As long as you know what applications this laser/light combo is good for, it does seem sturdy enough, flashlight is very bright, laser is easily adjustable, and it's available for a decent price.
