Summary: Nice scope 2010-05-01
Comment: Talk about fast aquisition, During day light dont even need to light the Reticle. Very easy to mount to existing rails. I had it calibrated within 20 rounds. It is great for my AR-15. The lighted reticle is great for low light conditios. It is pricey but worth the money in my opinion. I was able to hit targets at 50 yards and 100 yards in 1 power mode both eyes open and we are talking clay pigeons. An excellant scope.

Summary: Red dot-->CQ/T-->ACOG? 2010-03-11
Comment: I was introduced to the CQ/T at a large area gun store renowned for knowledgeable people behind the counter. (Isn't this why the best regional gun stores get large?) I have an EOTech and Trijicon red dot sight, an ACOG, and have used Aimpoints. I started with an M16 before optics were either issued or an issue. My son-in-law (sandbox veteran, infantry officer) got me to remove the screw-down handle from my AR and try optics. He's a big fan of the ACOG after toting it around Iraq, and will "settle" for an Aimpoint, but I started with a Trijicon Reflex to see if I'd like it. Well, the search for more and better soon started...
For me, the CQ/T lies between the popular red dots such as the EOTech and Aimpoint and the ACOGs for a few reasons. The 1X view allows both eyes open with no visual "shift". This is excellent and relatively rare! Most variable scopes adjust down to 1.2 but that still causes some brain confusion between what the scope eye and non-scope eye see. Here the CQ/T joins the red dots--no magnification; great short range, eyes-open CQB view. But when you want to really reach out and touch something, the red dots have to add a modular magnifier. True, the magnifier can be placed on something like the La Rue flip-to-the-side mount, allowing one to shift from 1X to 3X and back quickly. But it feels a little cobbled. The CQ/T feels much like any variable magnification hunting scope: just twist and magnify. The view is great--clear and bright--and this is true throughout the magnification range. The illuminated dot and ring are as pictured. The dot is large enough to place on target quickly while being small enough not to obstruct a longer range shot. The ring can help with range-finding if you practice with it on known distances and objects similar to your intended real life targets.
The ACOG has a set magnification but its reticle selection gives one a veritable buffet of choices. From bullet drop compensation to color-specific single dots, you'll be hard pressed not to find one that you love. The ACOG has even prompted look-alikes by its recognizable profile. New models even allow one to piggy-back a reflex sight on the magnified ACOG as a co-witness.
So where does that leave the CQ/T? Well, a little overpriced when you're thinking red dot and in the lower range of ACOGs if you're looking for magnification. But the CQ/T is not so much between as it is standing with one foot in each camp. I wouldn't have thought that its "little tube" (14mm sounds much smaller than it is when you're using it) could gather light so well or that I'd like the circle-dot reticle as much as I did. But, in the end, it didn't go home with me. I've re-thought the decision several times, handled it at the store and outside, but never put down the cash. But I'm still intrigued enough that I check this page. I wrote this review not as an expert on the CQ/T, or even an owner, but as an admirer who wishes that it was a little less expensive. (I haven't "married" the CQ/t, but I keep "dating" her and know her pretty well.) After all, $1,000 will buy a lot of any other Leupold or other scope.
But there's a 6.8mm AR that keeps whispering to me how well it would do next deer season if I only mated it to the CQ/T...
