I was looking for a dangerous game scope that would
be low in power for close work but be able to shoot
at long distances if the need arrived. I used this
scope on a 416 Weatherby to practice before my Brown
bear hunt in Alaska. It has withstood the recoil of
quite a few rounds without any problems. On the hunt
it rained every day but the scope never fogged or
took on water. It is very clear and bright and I like
the focus adjustment on the rear. The price was great.
I did get my bear.
Did I buy a lemon?,

I am proud for the guy who used his 3-15x50 on a 416. Pretty remarkable. However I wasn't that Lucky. I installed my brand new scope on a 300 winchester magnum. Worked great - absolutely flawless until the second shot. Everything went to pieces. The cross hairs will not focus above 7 power - no matter what I adjust the scope is worthless above 7 power. Maybe a lemon - maybe a fluke - maybe I better hold my fingers crossed that Pentax will replace it. To be honest, this is the 5th pentax scope that I have purchased in the last couple of years. They all work fine but this one is definitely the exception.

I brought this scope on the premise that if Nikon can make both good quality cameras and scopes Pentax should be able to to the same, I was wrong. When I first received this scope I was reasonably impressed, it seemed to have been made with attention to detail and just using it to look across a field everything seemed to be in focus even at 15x. After mounting it to a Marlin .17HRM I was off to the range to zero it. At 25 meters nothing was in focus. Targets (shoot & see) looked like black blobs. I would focus at 5x, but just barley. Regardless I did get a good zero and went to the 100 meter range. In bright sunlight, at 15x, targets and natural growth around the target stand were not clearly defined. I didn't waste to much ammo on something I couldn't see so I just went home. I would not recommend buying this scope. To often on these reviews reviewers like to state "it is ok for the money", I disagree with this thought process. I think if a company is producing an item it...Read more
