This review is from: Pentax Ultimate Zoom Scope (Sports) I bought this scope at the recommendation of an article on AccurateShooter.com and Amazon had it on sale (cheap); the reason for this I soon found out. I'm not one to simply bash a product, so I'll just get to what is wrong with it. First, the electric zoom would zoom out quickly, but took forever to zoom back in. Looking though it, it seemed as though it would "stop" at a different magnification when zooming in every time. I mounted it to my .243, a proven one-hole gun, to test it before I put in on my 22-250. It lasted one range session. The good, although the zoom was sketchy as I described above, it stayed on POA during all ranges. The bad, the reticle rotated clockwise after a few shots. Now this is a heavy barreled .243, so recoil was NOT a factor. I realize that it could just be a bad scope, it happens. But the reticle issue coupled with the zoom, I would not recommend this to anyone. As a side-note, I'm contacting them today to get my money back. Their no-hassle...Read more By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Pentax Ultimate Zoom Scope (Sports) Almost a wonderful thing. But no cigar.
Pentax should be complemented on sticking their necks out with something nobody (that I know of) has done before. That said, if Pentax had pushed the design a bit farther, this thing could sell for a bunch of bucks. This is a big bright scope, 30mm tube, front focus objective (focuses closer than 25yds if you need it), uses one CR123 battery, quick focus eyepiece, and has a second focal plane crosshair. Mine zooms from 3 to 15 in aprox. 5-6 seconds. It's the same zooming down. I put it (with the battery installed) in the freezer for a few hours. The zoom speed was about the same, but the motor noise was much louder and higher pitched. It sounded like it was straining. The zoom sound is a high pitched motor whine. Something like older digital cameras zooming. There is motor noise when zooming. In a normal room background noise setting, it is easy to hear. Outdoors at the range, folks at nearby benches could hear...Read more Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Pentax Ultimate Zoom Scope (Sports) What a great scope. The 50mm objective and the 30mm(1.2") main tube gives so much light that I can see better with the scope at dust than I can without it. The clarity compared to my Leopold is the same. I love this electric zoom on my 300 Win Mag holds zero and the clicks are sharp. When hunting I am on the low zoom setting so I can quickly pick up my target then zoom in without ever taking the scope away from my eye. The zoom is smooth and moves at the same speed in both directions. I am right handed and have the scope control mounted on the stock for easy operation by my left hand. This scope with a mil dot reticule would be perfect for long range hunting. The position of the scope control can vary with the operator and weapon. This is a great improvement to the modern rifle scope. The best part of this scope is the clarity and price. The motor drive is extremely quiet - I always remove the CR123 battery when I clean and store my rifle. You will be amazed with the...Read more |
