Sightmark Flip-to-Side 30mm Mount

I was in the market for a quick detach scope ring for my magnifier so I could easily switch between short range and long range, so I bought this. I didn't even realize what the flip-to-side meant until I actually got it (I just assumed it was a fancy term for "quick detach"). To my amazement, I could actually slide the scope ring off to the side and use my iron sights/EOTech without even having to detach it from the rail. This is much better than what I had hoped for, because now I don't have to carry around my magnifier wherever I go since it is always attached to the gun. Of course, if ever need to take it off (which I have done quite a few times so far), then the quick-detach system makes that process much more convenient as well.

I bought this mount, with the associated Sightmark 5X magnifier, to work in connection with my Eotech holographic weapon site. The flip-to-side mount does not properly align with the HWS. The system that Sightmark uses does not allow full travel on the slide (it does not travel all the way to the left side of the mount), meaning that the reticle on the Eotech ends up on the upper right when looking through the Sightmark optic. The flip-to-side option uses a sliding rail, which has a tendency to bind and not travel easily. I will be returning this system. As much as it pains me to put out the cash, a "brand-name" magnifier (Eotech, Aimpoint, etc) would probably be a better option. You pay less for the Sightmark, and it shows in the product quality.

Does the same thing as a high dollar La-Rue .. works great and has solid build quality! Make sure you have a long enough rail to accomodate it. It's a very tight squeeze with a magnifier in this mount and an aimpoint red dot on a standard AR-15.
