The install was simple and the required 20-gauge spacers were included so there weren't any fitting issues at all. I pretty much just had to pop the cross pins out and then replaced them with the screws that come with this mount. The only install issue was that one of the plastic nut supports got stripped out. After installing, I took it to the range to sight in the red dot and pattern the shotgun; and everything went great with that too. I guess I should just sum it up by saying this Weaver saddle mount is functionally perfect. The problem has nothing to do with the function, but with the plastic construction. As I already mentioned, one of the nut supports was stripped out during installation (and I didn't overtighten either - the nut just wasn't fully pushed in when I started screwing it together and it slowly stripped out without me realizing what was...Read more 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: By Biker Bob (Tampa, FL) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Weaver No-Gunsmith Converta Shotgun Mount - Remington 870, 1100, and 1187 (12 and 20 Gauge) Hardwoods HD (Sports) This product fills the bill and is priced right. I had a little trouble with screw alignment on one of the screw holes and kept cross-threading the screw. After some repeated attempts, I was finally able to seat the screw in the threads properly. I then discovered that you have to be careful not to overtighten the screws or you will bind the action in the shotgun.
The proof is in the pudding I suppose. I mounted a red dot scope on the saddle and harvested a nice turkey so I am pleased with the product. Being able to use a scope instead of the iron sights gives you a bit more of an edge in making an accurate shot. I would have given it 5 stars except for the screw alignment difficulty and the sensitivity of overtightening the saddle to the action. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: By Sparse Grey Hackle (Boulder, Utah) - See all my reviews This review is from: Weaver No-Gunsmith Converta Shotgun Mount - Remington 870, 1100, and 1187 (12 and 20 Gauge) Hardwoods HD (Sports) Have not shot it with mount on yet but my Remington 11-87 12 ga Special Purpose required some modification for this to mount.
Once I slid the cross pins out the bolts for the mount that comes with it would not fit in the sleeves in the trigger group without taking the C clips out that hold the sleeves in place as well as lock the cross pins in. I hope I don't lose them if I ever need them again, they are specialized Clips, bagged them with the cross pins so hopefully all will be well. I can only just barely tighten the mount bolts though, about finger snug is it, any tighter and the action binds, which the instructions warn about do no surprise there. I don't trust only one thread holding that nut on so am using loc-tite on the thread that I got to catch. With luck all will stay in place and we will test it tomorrow at the range with a red dot reflex sight, then on clays, then thursday on last day of ducks. If I can I...Read more |
